Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) is a worldwide federation of Motoring and Touring Clubs. The FIA European Bureau of the Eurocouncil provides representation to the European member clubs within the European Institutions. The European Bureau of the FIA represents the interest of 35 million members of 71 national automobile clubs in Europe and works together with the automobile clubs in European projects. The main interests represented are in the field of road safety, transport efficiency, fuel efficiency and environmental impact. The national automobile clubs are active in services with related to driver training and information and education, through their driving schools, training centres, club magazines and websites.

The FIA European Bureau cooperates with the clubs in self-funded European test programmes of mobility structure and services (EuroTest and EuroTAP). The FIA European Bureau also participates on behalf of the clubs in EU funded projects, usually cooperating with the clubs on dissemination activities.

FIA has been involved in numerous national and international projects, such as:

  • eSafety Challenge: the eSafety Challenge and eSafety On Board campaign promotes eSafety systems such as ESC, Warning and Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Support, Speed Alert and Adaptive Headlights to both consumers and policy makers.
  • ECOWILL (leading dissemination WP): ECOWILL is a project rolling out short duration ecodriving training programs for learning and licensed drivers in 13 European countries (AT, UK, FI, NL, GR, PL, CZ, HU, LT, HR, IT, ES, DE). The FIA is contracted for the dissemination and communication aspects of the project and has recently launched the project website:
  • FOT- Net (Task leader: FOT catalogue) : FOT-NET is the strategic network platform gathering national, European and international Field Operational Test organisers. FOTs are large-scale test programmes aiming at a comprehensive assessment of the efficiency, quality, robustness and acceptance of Information & Communication Technologies in transport.
