The French institute of science and technology for transport, development and networks (IFSTTAR) is a government owned research entity under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of Research and the Ministry of Transport, resulting from the merger of The French National Institute for Transport and Safety Research (INRETS) and the French Central Laboratory of Roads and Bridges (LCPC). IFSTTAR is active in research in the fields of urban and civil engineering, natural hazards, mobility of people and goods and transport efficiency and safety.

IFSTTAR’s missions consist in conducting applied research, offering consulting services, promoting innovation transfers, contributing to the establishment of standards and public policies, disseminating scientific knowledge and participating in research training. Three IFSTTAR laboratories are involved in UDRIVE. LESCOT (Laboratory Ergonomics and Cognitive Sciences applied to Transport), LIVIC (Laboratory for Vehicle-Infrastructure-Driver) and UMRESTTE (Epidemiological Research and Surveillance Unit in Transport Occupation and Environment). IFSTTAR researchers provide to UDRIVE competencies in ergonomics, data processing, statistics and epidemiology applied to naturalistic driving observations.
